Local Chorus Uses Technology to Sing Safely

The last time the members of Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus sang harmonies together was March 2020. The 28 member chartered chorus of Sweet Adelines International has remained active and engaged with online rehearsals on Zoom, learned new songs, and produced a new virtual choir video. Still, members missed singing together until chorus director Jennifer Hunter became aware of an idea of using microphones and an FM transmitter allowing members to sing together in real time while sitting in their cars.
After months of research and launching a fundraising program to purchase needed equipment, on Sunday, March 14, two dozen members met to sing for the first time since the Covid lockdown.  A committee, lead by singer Libby Horn, handed out wireless microphones,  organized parking at the Knights of Columbus in Saratoga Springs, and implemented safety procedures.  Hunter, along with her husband, set up the technology that allowed members to sit in the comfort of their own cars and participate in a rehearsal heard over their car radios.   After a year of cancelled performances and events, the opportunity to meet together and share their love of song lifted spirits, giving them hope that they would be performing together again! “It was so wonderful to hear everyone’s voices singing together! The tears rolled down my cheeks as the first sounds of harmony came through my radio,” said chorus member Mary Biffer.  Another member, Maria Russo, stated,”Thank you for the return of a bit of normalcy.”
The chorus hopes to continue these rehearsals and is considering car performances in the places it often performs, such as nursing homes and local events. Saratoga Soundtrack is a championship a cappella women’s chorus dedicated to musical excellence.
